Elizabeth Joan Lease, known as Liz, was born August 10, 1946 in Elmira, NY. After a year-long courageous and stoic battle with appendiceal cancer and related complications, Liz succumbed peacefully at home in Williamsburg, VA on March 27, 2015. She was surrounded by her loving husband and daughters.
Liz was predeceased by her parents, Rosemond and Arthur Sykes.
She is survived by her husband of 45 years, Roger A. Lease; her daughters, Loren Rosemond Lease of Howland, OH, Larah Elizabeth Lease Ring and her husband, David L. Ring, of Norfolk, VA, and Caron Joanna Lease of Ridgewood, NJ; grandsons, Seth Michael and Jonah Arthur Ring; brother, Damon Sykes and his wife, Angie; and numerous dear cousins, nieces and nephews.
A graduate of Elmira College and long-time resident of Ridgewood, NJ, Liz was active in various charitable, civic and social organizations. She served as Treasurer and then as President of the College Club of Ridgewood, the Junior Woman's Club of Ridgewood, and the Home and School Associations at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She was also an active member of the Board of Directors of Ridgewood YWCA, Woman's Club of Ridgewood and several other organizations.
Liz loved her family and friends, her cats, traveling and the holiday seasons, especially Christmas.
She was a very successful Realtor for over 20 years and retired to Williamsburg in 2013. Liz's career in real estate -- and, more importantly, the type of relationships she built with people -- is perhaps best summarized by these words from a close friend; "To many of us, you were our first introduction to Ridgewood and our first friend here - that is certainly true for us. My mind's eye fills with all of the memories of the wonderful things you did for us - helping us to find not one, but two dream homes! . In short, Liz, thank you for always being you and for adding immeasurably to our lives - enriching them with your kindness and humor and good-nature."
A visitation will be held on Monday, March 30 at 10am at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg, followed by a memorial service at 11am.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Mark Ellis Foundation at Peninsula Cancer Institute, 120 Kings Way, Suite 3100, Williamsburg, VA 23185 or to the College Club of Ridgewood-Education Fund, Attention: Ed Fund, P.O. Box 118, Ridgewood, NJ 07450.
